Natural Remedies to Treat Toenail Fungus

If you have yellow or white spots under your toenails, there is a possibility you may have a case of toenail fungus. If your fungus runs even deeper, it may distort, thicken, or discolor your nail. Certain natural remedies have been purported as successful alternatives to oral medications in treating toenail fungus. According to the People’s Pharmacy, cornmeal has shown to be effective in treating toenail fungus. In order to use this method, you need to place one part corn meal to two parts water in a foot bath. Soak your feet in this mixture for thirty minutes, and repeat this every other day for one month. Tea tree oil may also be used to treat toenail fungus as it is both antiseptic and antifungal. When applied twice a day, it may help treat your fungus. Toenail fungus is notoriously difficult to cure though, so be sure to consult with your podiatrist to determine the best treatment for your case.

Toenail Fungus Treatment

Toenail fungus is a condition that affects many people and can be especially hard to get rid of. Fortunately, there are several methods to go about treating and avoiding it.

Antifungals &  Deterrence

Oral antifungal medicine has been shown to be effective in many cases. It is important to consult with a podiatrist to determine the proper regiment for you, or potentially explore other options.

Talcum powder – applying powder on the feet and shoes helps keep the feet free of moisture and sweat.

Sandals or open toed shoes – Wearing these will allow air movement and help keep feet dry. They also expose your feet to light, which fungus cannot tolerate. Socks with moisture wicking material also help as well.
